Our Centennial Year
Oct. 1, 2016 - Oct. 1, 2017
Celebrating the 100th Anniversary
of the
Consecration of the St. Patrick Church
on
September 30th, 1917
And did we ever celebrate!
We found so many reasons to be thankful for our history, and we learned so much while we were at it. While researching our history, we found hundreds of photographs and newspaper articles that enriched what we knew about the Loretto Academy (St. Patrick School), the various Catholic churches in the area (there were seven!), the building of the new St. Patrick Church in 1915 - 1917, religious orders in Bisbee, and the many people that have made up our parish for a century.
There was plenty of interest in the research, and so much information was found.
We managed to publish
- a 15 month Centennial Calendar, copies of which are still resting in the homes of many who can look it over again and say "gosh, I had forgotten all about that" or "in all the years I've been in Bisbee, I never knew that."
- our 'Windows of Faith" book with full color photographs of each of our windows along with information about their donors, the theology behind the scenes in glass, and accompanying spiritual reflections
- our "Bisbee Area Journey of Faith" book, in which we gathered much of what we had accumulated into some sort of logical order to tell the story of our Faith Community since 1877.
Unfortunately, the copies of the calendar sold quickly and are gone, but the "Windows of Faith" and "Journey of Faith" books are available in the parish Gift Shop.
