Altar Servers

In the Body of Christ there exists a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather around the altar to worship God.  By virtue of our baptism in Christ some of us are called to serve as Altar Servers.

Altar Servers assist the presider and deacon at liturgy. Altar Servers give their attention to various tasks including assisting with the book of prayers, setting and clearing the altar, and taking care of the candles, incense and processional cross. Altar servers know the order of liturgy and serve with grace and reverence.

Adult men and women are also encouraged to take part in this ministry, whether alone or as part of a family team where parents and children serve together.

A Prayer for Altar Servers

Dear God, help me to do my best today. Help me to be reverent and to joyfully fulfill my duties. May I be eager to serve Christ and others whenever I find them in need. I ask this in Jesus name. AMEN.
